I read this article about water crisis (for the sake of my FYP project -.-) and realised that there are really many unfortunate children out there in the developing countries who are sufferring because they either dont have enough water to drink, or because the water they drink is too contaminated, causing the water borne diesease...
Well, i truly feel for them..but what can we do? There's always a limit to what we can do in helping others...cuz sometimes we cant even help ourselves... If given a chance, i would really like to go there, build as many bio-sand filter as possible for them...so that the water they are drinking can be filtered... That could reduce the contaminants in the water..(that's the purpose of a Bio-sand filter, and yea, my project...)
Innocent kids, who did nothing wrong..they have to suffer from these kind of living conditions. They do not have a television set, radio set, computer, internet, dolls, music player, shopping malls, nice clothes nor shoes... Neither do they have money, good living environment, clean water nor good health...But for us, we have almost everything..that we start to take everything we have for granted.. We care about looking good, enjoying life, earning lots of money, clubbing, working, latest model for phones and computers..What they care about is simple...really simple, enough water to drink, enough food to eat..most importantly, the disease dont take them away from their loved ones..
We have so many things of great value, yet we dont treasure... They have only one thing which they really value...LOVE...love is something they have in abundance...be it the love from the parents to their children or vice versa.. Love between husband and wife, love between people of thier own race...
My aunt went south africa with her friends last year, when she came back, she mentioned...on the streets, you can see kids running around, holding a dirty looking cloth...following people wearing boots and shoes..cuz they want to help them polish their boots..when you give them 10 cents (Singapore currency i mean), they would be very happy...soon after, you'll see more and more children following you around to wherever you go... This is how bad it is over there..
Yet here in Singapore, we dont even bother to pick up the 10 cents we drop or found on the floor sometimes...we dont even close the tap and let the water run even when we dont need the water for that few seconds...we switch on most of the lights at home once we step into the house, turn on the computer, television while we take our bath with heater on... Sometimes, if we compare ourselves with the less fortunate (like in this case), we'll find ourselves living in heaven...
